OK, so one my favorite Pinterest finds is this awesome-possum crusty bread! Thanks to this fine blogger right here, this bread has never, NEVER, failed me. And look, I am NOT a good baker. I can cook pretty effing well, but when it comes to yeasty things it's hit or miss. So aside from the fact that this is REALLY good, it is criminally easy.

Sea Shell Votives

Two years ago we went on a Disney cruise with my family. Let's get this out of the way - neither Disney nor cruises are cool. I get that. But let me tell you, I got off that boat kicking and screaming like a little girl. It was THE BEST TRIP EVER. The food, the customer service, those damn princesses that WILL NOT break character - it truly was great. One of the best parts was Castaway Cay - Disney's private island. Just great for so many reasons. A crap-ton of money, but totally worth it.

In any case, a year after our vacation, still in mourning that I was NOT on the ship, we had a tropical themed dinner (in February, in Cleveland...torture) to remember our trip. For decorations, I created these awesome and easy to make seashell candles! With just some wick w/ a round metal base from Michael's, and a plain white candles that I had melted in a double boiler, I was able to create these cute little votives. I then arranged them in a glass bowl with some sand and more shells. I can't say that I totally felt like I was in the Carribean, but it did help get rid of some of those winter blues, even if for just an hour of two.

Laissez les bon temps roulez! (Or something to that effect)

OK, so I made this wreath a couple years ago for Mardi Gras. My only regret is that I didn't spray paint the white foam a gold or something like that. Other than that, I think it looks pretty kick-ass. I cut beads and then pinned them right through the string. I also used the Cricut cartridge for Halloween Chic & Scary to cut the masks. I spray painted and covered in gold glitter. I love the finishing touch of the beads draped over the wreath, as if said wreath exposed its hooters. Now, time for a hurricane! (PS note The Gories album in the lower left hand corner).

So last week I was lucky enough to see one of my all time favorite artists, Thalia Zedek, performing with her new(ish) band. I've been following her career since Come's first album, 11:11.  Incredible stuff that stands the test of time. There weren't many at the show, as she was competing against Roky Erickson and the Black Angels.  They played an incredible set and I brought home the band's latest EP, Six. Not underrated, but she does not get the recognition. Ah well. If you're wise, you'll check them out. They effing rule.

More from the Little Mermaid files. Pay no attention to the sea witch's haggy hand. I rigged this up for demonstration only w/ some beading wire, felt on the underside and glue. It's cute, no?

Hey there, hi there! Yes, I've reemerged to the surprise of no one, because no was likely paying attention, so there.  Well I've started working on some clippies to sell at my kids' production of The Little Mermaid at school. I figured these would be a great alternative at the bake sale when people tire of buying sugar laden items. These were fun and easy to make, but hard to keep away from my daughter!
