Sea Shell Votives
Two years ago we went on a Disney cruise with my family. Let's get this out of the way - neither Disney nor cruises are cool. I get that. But let me tell you, I got off that boat kicking and screaming like a little girl. It was THE BEST TRIP EVER. The food, the customer service, those damn princesses that WILL NOT break character - it truly was great. One of the best parts was Castaway Cay - Disney's private island. Just great for so many reasons. A crap-ton of money, but totally worth it.
In any case, a year after our vacation, still in mourning that I was NOT on the ship, we had a tropical themed dinner (in February, in Cleveland...torture) to remember our trip. For decorations, I created these awesome and easy to make seashell candles! With just some wick w/ a round metal base from Michael's, and a plain white candles that I had melted in a double boiler, I was able to create these cute little votives. I then arranged them in a glass bowl with some sand and more shells. I can't say that I totally felt like I was in the Carribean, but it did help get rid of some of those winter blues, even if for just an hour of two.
